Happy Birthday to Goose

I’m not sure who Goose is, but today on my store bought Jack Daniel’s calendar, it lists Goose’s birthday.
Does anyone know who Goose is?

Goose was Tom Cruise’s (Maverick’s) sidekick in “Top Gun.” He was killed tragically in an accident during a dogfighting exercise – poor Maverick blamed himself. Sigh… high drama, that.
Nice that Jack Daniel’s is commemorating it, though.
